We are looking for a candidate to join the Style Guide Team in Fidelity User Experience Design (UXD). UXD provides design services for a wide range of customer-facing sites and applications across Fidelity''s Retail, Workplace and Institutional businesses. The role is based in Durham, North Carolina.
The User Experience Design team is responsible for designing Fidelity Investments'' award-winning websites, mobile applications and internal workstations. Our 100 person team of elite user experience professionals works collaboratively with the business and technology teams to design and deliver online experiences that enable our customers'' financial success.
The UXD Web Style Guide is a collection of design guidelines, best practices and resources whose purpose is to facilitate and support design consistency and efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities
Style Guide Review Services: Ensure the consistent application of UXD Design principles and the Web Style Guide on assigned projects. Participate in Design Review checkpoints as the project progresses through our design process.
Style Guide Team: Participate in the ongoing growth and evolution of the Style Guide by identifying new design elements/solutions and ushering them through our Change Control process for final inclusion in the Guide.
Education and Experience
- A Style Guide Reviewer has the opportunity to see and participate in the creation of a wide variety of designs in support of business initiatives. We sometimes refer to this role as "Visual QA," in that we need to verify that our designs have been developed to spec. The ideal candidate must be a stickler for detail and have experience in user interface design and web usability.
- Visual Design for the Web: Understands how web pages are put together visually, such as how page layout impacts delivery of information, as well as how to use typography and color effectively. Understands the rationale for promoting consistency in design and feels comfortable advocating for it.
Skills and Knowledge
- User Interface Design: An understanding of the principals of user interface/interaction design and information design, and the ability to translate them into effective visual designs.
- Usability: An understanding of the concepts of usability and how to design pages/interactions that improve a user''s ability to successfully complete an interaction.Familiarity with Accessibility/Section 508 guidelines is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to handle multiple projects at once.
- Ability to work with design teams as a resource, providing Style guidance and reviews in all stages of the UXD Design process. An accomplished Style Guide Reviewer has the ability to influence design in a positive way.
- Comfortable speaking in front of a group in Design Review meetings.
- Ability to identify new design ideas that could be applied to other projects, and usher them through the Change Control process.
- Proficient in the PC environment and a suite of tools including: graphics editing tools (such as Adobe Photoshop or Fireworks), MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat Professional. Familiarity with an HTML editing tool is a plus.
