Description and Desired Qualifications
CH2M HILL Instrumentation & Controls Engineer Internship â€" Spartanburg, SC

The challenge? Provide safe, sustainable energy solutions for our clients and communities worldwide. Our Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Interns will be exposed to a variety of technical and business energy functions with ever-increasing levels of complexity. You will receive a well-rounded, “real world" experience while participating in diverse and interesting energy projects to develop your skills.

The Spartanburg office of CH2M Hill is looking for an intern in the Instrumentation and Control Systems Department working in the Energy and Chemicals business group. This department is responsible for the design and development of ! systems used to control both continuous and batch processes for customers in the Chemical and Energy sectors. The total installed cost of several of these projects is in excess of $250MM.

We are looking for a student with technical aptitude, good interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic and the ability to quickly learn new skills to work in a team environment. I&C engineering incorporates aspects of chemical, mechanical, electrical and computer engineering so prospective candidates should be open to learning concepts and skills not directly related to their major field of study.

The successful candidate will be assigned to the Instrumentation and Control Systems Department and will work along-side and assist I&C engineers in the design and development of all aspects of industrial control systems.

Potential job responsibilities include:
Development of Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens.

Aid in the implementation of Programma! ble Logic Controllers (PLC) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to pe! rform automatic control of energy and chemical processes.

Develop sensor and control wiring layouts.

Assist in the development of performance, construction, and installation specifications for measurement and final control elements such as control valves, flow meters, load cells, etc.

Assist in the review, bid, and purchase process for the above equipment.

Creating and maintaining databases for instrument information.

Review and mark up Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's).

Working with other departments to help coordinate design efforts.

Possible travel to client site to assist in startup or troubleshooting of control systems.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants must be pursuing a BA/BS degree in Electrical Engineering or other related field from accredited College or University
GPA minimu! m (accumulative): 2.90 (out of 4.0)
Preferred Qualifications
Good verbal/communication skills.

Good abilities with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

Some computer programming abilities not mandatory, but are a plus (VBA, C, .NET etc.)

Knowledge of computer networking is a plus.
