Only one vacancy will be hired under this vacancy for the Fayetteville, NC VA Medical Center for the Pembroke/Hamlet Community Based Outpatient Clinic areas as determined by Management. Salary scale for this position will be under the scale for Rest of the U.S.

The Social Worker is responsibl! e for outreach services to homeless Veterans in communities and rural areas distant from the Medical Center. Assignments involve providing continuing social work services at a field location alone or with subordinate social work staff members without a supervisor available for consultation. Such assignments typically require extensive coordination of services with a wide range of residents of various communities such as local lawyers, physicians, and public officials, and with local social agencies.

Clients tend to have frequent and severe crises, and lack a family or community support network. Clients also may be poor at self-monitoring, and frequently fail to comply with medical or legal instructions. They may have significant deficits in coping skills, and require continuing professional support.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full- time (Hours of duty may consist of alternative shifts or work schedules to include holidays and weekends)

Basic Life Suppo! rt (BLS) certification will be required before an appointment can be gi! ven.

Drivers must have a current and unrestricted NC driver's license. Some travel may be required as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship.
Master's Degree
Licensure (licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level)
English language proficiency

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11 LEVEL: Requires a completion of a minimum of one year of post-MSW degree professional social work experience in the field of health care social work and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. This experience must have been in a clinical setting and must have demonstrated the potential to perform advanced assignments independently. (A clinical setting is a! medical center, clinic - medical or psychiatric, residential treatment center, or any other type of facility where social work participates in a collaborative treatment and is identified with the medical profession.) Experience must have been obtained AFTER earning a Master's Degree in Social Work.

SUBSTITUTING EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-11 LEVEL: To meet the required specialized experience for the GS-11 level, applicant may substitute a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work. You must submit a transcript to receive credit for this education.
