The RN Wound Care Specialist for Community Living Center (CLC) is a licensed registered nurse that is credentialed in wound ostomy care with special! ized training in wound care. He/She is responsible for the CLC Pressure! Ulcer/Wound Care Program. He/she coordinates nursing care for individual and group of residents with skin care problems and is responsible to develop preventive measures for residents at risk; for assessing and reassessing skin care problems, wounds and pressure ulcer, recommending treatment, assuring compliance and following up on pressure ulcer healing status. The RN Wound Care Specialist must demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. He/She participates in resident and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other resident team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The RN Wound Care Specialist ensures that quality nursing care is rendered to residents in accordance with policies, procedures, and the standards of Nursing Service and the VA requirements include citizenship of the U.S.; current, ful! l, active and unrestricted nursing license; physical and mental capabilities to satisfactorily perform duties of the assignment under the guidance and directives of the Chief Nurse for CLC.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS:
1. Must have a BSN, required.

2. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in as a Certified Ostomy Wound Care Nurse within the last four (4) years, required.

3. Must be certified in wound care by an approved credentialing center (National Alliance Wound Care Institute, Wound Management Institute, WOCNCB), required.

QUALITY RANKING ELEMENTS:
1. MSN, preferred.

2. Nursing Home/Skilled Nursing Facility experience, preferred.

4. Experience with computer software including Microsoft Excel, Words and Power Point, preferred.

5. Experience in Performance Improvement activities, preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizen of the United States. Graduate of a school of! professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting age! ncy and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia . In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Must be proficient in spoken and written English .

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an accepta! ble level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research. Education/Experience Requirements:

Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or! Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and appro! ximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: [ This position involves lifting, moving, and transporting of patients and driving. The position involves exposure to blood pathogens, fine manipulation, standing, walking, bending, crouching, and reaching patients. It requires dealing with the acutely ill, with patients who may display disturbed behaviors, and with stressful situations. Assisting with transferring patients to wheelchairs, and/or may need to escort a patient to other areas. Moving patients and weighing patients in excess of 50kg. or more. Wearing of a respirator may be required at times in the performance of the duties of this position. when required to use respirator, employee cannot have facial hair or any condition that interferes with the face to face piece seal or valve function of the respirator.
