Cherry Hospital is an accredited state psychiatric hospital that serves Eastern North Carolina. Currently our Independent Transition Unit (ITU) is recruiting a Registered Nurse to serve as a Nurse Consultant (Nurse Clinician). Our ITU consists of four adult patient care units, three male and one female. Patients transition from the Admissions Units to the ITU with goals to achieve a life beyond inpatient hospitalization and transition back into the community. On the ITU, the Nurse Clinician will work with an interdisciplinary team of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Rehabilitation Staff, Nurses and Health Care Technicians to plan, development and implement individualized treatment plans to assist patients in meeting their goals. The Nurse Clinician will collaborate closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager and provide education and support to all staff. Additionally, the Nurse Clinician serves as a clinical resource nurse and role model for all patient populations. The Nurse Clinician will participate in the development of nursing care standards, educational materials, policies and procedures. The Nurse Clinician also takes an active role in unit and hospital-wide audits and utilizes results to educate staff and improve patient care.
Work schedule is 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday with some evening/night/weekend work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills with individuals and groups.
- Must be organized and able to set priorities.
- Analytical and problem solving skills are essential.
- Knowledge and skill in group theory/dynamics, nursing process and practice.
- Ability to establish and maintain control of violent patients, defend self and others against violent assault.
***As a condition for continued employment: must successfully pass all required parts of CPI's Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Course.
***As an essential function of this position, the shift/unit is primary, but you may be required to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, during inclement weather, and overtime and be assigned to another shift/unit/building based on Hospital needs.
Management prefers at least one year experience in treatment planning, auditing, consulting and staff education.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of experience in the area of specialization.
