Director of Tax manages all functions related to Income and Franchise Taxes across federal, state, and foreign jurisdictions.
In addition, the Director of ! Tax is responsible for the Companyâs License, Permit, and
Property Tax group (âLP&Pâ) as well as Sales Tax (âSUTâ) group that serve over 7,500 retail store locations.
This role is responsible for managing a team of income and franchise tax professionals i.e. Corporate Tax Manager & Analysts, LP&P group Team,
and SUT group Team. The Director will report to the VP, Finance.
The Director ensures that all income tax provision and compliance items are completed in an accurate and timely manner, develops and implements income and franchise tax planning strategies, and manages federal and state income tax audit inquiries.
In addition the Director is responsible for the SUT group that includes all sales and use tax compliance, planning and audits.
The Director is also responsible for the LP&P group that includes managing third party property tax compliance and the store licenses and permits compliance.
Prin! cipal Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage, train and rec! ruit a team of tax professionals responsible for all aspects of Income and Franchise tax planning and compliance.
Responsible for compliance with all tax accounting policies and procedures, including Sarbanes-Oxley.
Manage and review the preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provisions in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
Interact with internal and external auditors in review of tax provision and related tax disclosures.
Manage and review federal and state income and franchise tax compliance to ensure returns prepared in an accurate and timely manner.
Review foreign income tax filings to ensure returns prepared in an accurate and timely manner by third party service providers.
Develop and implement Federal, State and Foreign income and franchise tax planning initiatives.
Includes managing relationships with outside service providers and internal business partners.
Manage income and franchise tax audits w! ith IRS, state income and franchise tax auditors and foreign jurisdiction auditors.
Interact cross-functionally with key business units on business initiatives and projects serving as a subject matter expert on tax issues.
Effectively communicate tax concepts and issues to Senior Management with analysis of alternatives and recommendations.
Manage and support non-income tax processes (unclaimed property filings and audits and state incentive negotiations for significant projects).
Stay abreast of changes to tax laws and regulations;
proactively communicate these to senior management and business partners.
Manage LP&P Group in the licensing and permitting of Stores as well as managing property tax compliance and appeals by third party service provider.
Manage SUT Group in monthly sales and use tax compliance as well as support with audit issues.
Improve efficiencies and business processes.

Position Requirements:
Subject matter expert in federal, state, and foreign income tax compliance and planning
Experience working with corporate and flow-through entities
Knowledge of transfer pricing principles and intercompany transactions
Proven knowledge of FAS 109, FIN 48 (ASC 740) and related tax accounting guidance.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills to include effective time management in all key responsibilities of the job.
Ability to manage and develop staff and to assist with review and preparation of compliance, tax planning or audits.
Proven analytical and problem resolution skills.
Team player and customer service mentality
Ability to lead by example and to drive change and process improvements
Ability to work in fast paced environment and adjust priorities quickly
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft! office products, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
Familiarity with Tax software packages.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Education
:
Bachelorâs Degree in Finance or Accounting; Master in Taxation or Masters in Business Administration preferred
Experience
:
10+ years of tax experience in both the corporate and public accounting environment; International compliance experience a plus. Must have at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
Certification(s):
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
