JOB PURPOSE

The IACUC administrator is a memb! er of a team of professionals employed to assure that the University maintains compliance with various federal regulations regarding animal teaching and research activities. Specifically, this position will provide support and direction to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). This individual is the recognized institutional expert on regulatory requirements regarding animal care and use and is expected to provide advice and guidance regarding regulatory and policy requirements in conducting the animal care and use. The IACUC administrator also provides the Assistant Vice President for Research technical information and analysis.

Incumbent reports to the Assistant Vice President for Research and leads collaborative effort with the IACUC Chair, IACUC Members, Attending Veterinarian & Researchers.

JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Directs and manages the effective and efficient operation of the IACUC including animal use application review, regulatory r! eporting, and record-keeping. E/20%
2. Advises investigato! rs as needed when completing application submissions. E/10%
3. Responsible for the scheduling and coordination of IACUC meetings and establishing the agenda and minutes for these meetings. E/10%
4. Prepares extensive reports on research laws and issues (as they pertain to animals) to federal agencies, accrediting bodies and university officials. E/10%
5. Schedules and plans the semi-annual research facilities inspections program. Compiles and finalizes extensive semi-annual reports which are submitted to the Institutional Official. E/10%
6. Develops and coordinates Inter-Institutional Agreements for collaborative research with other universities. E/10%
7. Assists in the development and delivery of training programs for faculty, staff, and students. E/10%
8. Interfaces with the Office of Sponsored Programs where IACUC protocols have associated external funding. E/10%
9. Responsible for ensuring that there is coordination with the IBC administrator! where animal care and use protocols have biosafety components and with the IRB administrator where human participants are involved, and assists in coordination efforts between the relevant committees. E/10%

QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in animal science with 3-5 years IACUC or related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated knowledge of federal and states laws and regulations governing the use of animals in research. Advanced technical knowledge of applicable federal regulations related to IACUC and animal welfare.

Strong computer proficiency; excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to work in a decentralized environment with the ability to meet strict deadlines, maintain a very high level of confidentiality and quality with attention to detail. Under minimal supervision, this position requires independent decision making, the use of discr! etion and demonstrated leadership.

PREFERRED:
Certi! fied Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) or eligible within 1 year of taking position.

PAY & WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hrs: 37.5;
