THIS IS A REPOST AND PREVIOUS APPLICANTS WILL NEED TO REAPPLY TO BE CONSIDERED.Work in this class involves supervising direct care staff responsible for the safety and short term ! security of pre- and post- adjudicated delinquents, status offenders and juveniles bound over to Superior Court; daily management of admission, release and appointments of juveniles; and oversight and management of records to ensure that court orders, juvenile records, behavior reports, and management reports are accurate and complete. Personnel responsibilities include assisting in the hiring of staff, the training and orientation of new employees, the assignment of work, performance management, and ensuring staff meet and maintain certain requirements and comply with policies and procedures. Work is subject to close personal and physical contact with juveniles and decisions that may impact the protection of state property, the physical safety of the juveniles, staff and the employee. WORK SCHEDULE: 2ND SHIFT 4 PM TO 12 MIDNIGHT AND SOME WEEKENDS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
General knowledge of the principles of administration involv! ed in operating a secured facility. General knowledge of the a! dolescent behavior and development and juvenile law. Knowledge of institutional programming techniques for delinquent juveniles. Knowledge of various treatment and rehabilitative modalities. Considerable knowledge of sanitation and health and safety precautions in a secure facility. Skill in establishing rapport with a variety of treatment professionals, staff, and juveniles. Ability to provide leadership to organize and supervise the activities of a group. Ability to effectively communicate and express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to relate with the population served and their families.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor s degree in human services field, criminal justice or related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience working with at-risk youth, one year of which must have been in a secure or residential treatment facility; Associate s degre! e in human services, criminal justice or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience working with at-risk youth, one year of which must have been in a secure or residential treatment facility; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor s degree in a related Human Services field, such as Criminal Justice, Sociology, Education, Religion or similar subjects shall include 25 semester hours of coursework related to the human services field. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Necessary Special Qualification -applicants for positions designated as juvenile justice officers are subject to and must meet the hiring and training standards established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission, as defined in Title 12, Chapter 9 of the North Carolina Administrative Code, by the Statutory Authority of North Carolina General Statute 17c. Must be! eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Trai! ning and Standards Council. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
